2019 MTV Video Music Awards

This year’s MTV Music Video Awards has officially come and gone, but that doesn’t mean that it will ever be forgotten. The show was full of fun, sensual, and even futuristic performances all under one roof. With the show held in Newark, New Jersey there was a theme of New Jersey Pride. It’s time to take a look back on some of the greatest moments of this year’s VMAs!

The hottest stars came together to celebrate this year’s VMAs. The city of Newark was covered with posters to welcome in the exciting ceremony, and curious watchers looked down at the event from rooftops surrounding the carpet. With all the glitz and glamour on the carpet, it doesn’t come as a surprise that so many people wanted to get a look for themselves. Some stars that walked the carpet were Taylor Swift, Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes, Lizzo, Megan Thee Stallion, Queen Latifah, Normani, Bebe Rexha, H.E.R, Lil Nas X, Missy Elliot and more. With a fantastic pre-show performance from rising star Megan Thee Stallion and CNCO, the red carpet was buzzing.

Some of the greatest moments of the night were the performances that took place during the show. The show opened up with Taylor Swift giving a fantastic performance of “You need To Calm Down” and “Lover.” Miley Cyrus also took the stage to give a moving performance for “Slide Away” and Lizzo brought the fun with “Truth Hurts and “Good As Hell.” Some of the most talked-about performances of the night were the steamy first television performance given by couple Camilla Cabello and Shawn Mendes for Seneratia, and Normani’s “Motivation” that undeniably stole the show for those impressive moves. Lil Nas X gave an intriguing performance for “Panini” and Rosalia captured the hearts of millions of fans around the world with her performances. J. Balvin and Bad Bunny performed “Que Pretendes” and New Jersey natives The Jonas Brothers held a very special performance at Asbury Park. Closing out the night; Queen Latifah, Redman, Fetty Wap, Naughty By Nature, and Wyclef Jean couldn't end things out without giving a medley performance and further giving everyone a taste of New Jersey pride.

It wouldn’t be an award show without awards. This year celebrated many different artists who rocked music in 2019, some newcomers and some legends to the music industry. One artist who took the world by storm is Billie Eilish, who won Best New Artist while Ariana Grande won Best Artist. Lil Nas X won Song of the year for Old Town Road Remix and Cardi B won the best hip-hop award for Money. This summer’s hottest couple Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes won the best collaboration for Senorita and BTS won for Best Kpop. Megan The Stallion won Best Power Anthem for Hot Girl Summer featuring Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ing. The biggest award of the night was the video vanguard, awarded to veteran Missy Elliot who gave an unbelievable performance for a montage of some of her biggest hits.


This year’s VMAs was full of unforgettable performances and appearances from some of the hottest current stars and even some music legends. Congratulations to all the winners!
